GOP Health Care Plan Pulverized By The CBO »
Posted By ameliog 2 weeks, 4 days ago in Political OpinionWatch the Republicans now argue that the CBO estimates don’t matter and that they aren’t comprehensive in their analysis. After eight months of hyping every draft the CBO sent out on the Democratic plan.

I think the republicans may have shot themselves in the foot with this one. Both parties agree reform is needed. The democrats plan is far better and costs less. How can anyone possibly argue against this now? I think this along with the AARP and AMA endorsements will be enough to get the blue dogs and the ones the cons call "RINO's" to support the bill.

After NY-23 I wouldn't be surprised if some of these so called RINO's may realize that they are not gonna be welcome in Beck and Limbaugh's republican party come 2010 and maybe they will stand up for what is right.-

At over 1900 pages, how can anyone argue intelligently FOR this bill? Who knows what's in it? Who has time to read it? Who can understand what it says even if you DO manage to slog through it.

Why not take it one step at a time in several different bills.
Repeal McCarran-Ferguson -- all of it, not just the health insurance portion.
Revamp tort laws -- do away with or at least cap punitive damages.
Do away with the requirement that you must be a "bona fide full time employee" in order to be eligible to join the health insurance group.
Allow companies to sell across state lines -- in conjunction with the repeal of McCarran-Ferguson, this would increase competition and reduce premiums.
Do away with mandates -- I believe I am more aware of what level and type of health insurance coverage I need than a bunch of people in D.C..
Since the Boards of Directors of these large insurance companies will not protect their stockholders as they have a fiduciary responsibility to do, enact an SEC regulation that requires bonuses for upper management to be paid FROM CURRENT INCOME (PROFIT) ONLY!
Give a payroll (not corporate) tax credit to companies (or at least small companies) that are paying a high percentage of their employee's insurance premiums. Perhaps a tax disincentive to large companies that do not have a large majority of their employees -- full and part-time enrolled in a health insurance plan.
7 bills -- probably not more than 15 or 20 pages each (generously). An understandable plan that would not take 3 to 4 years to implement and would be easily tweaked if it wasn't working as planned. The results would be readily apparent rather quickly.

What this story leaves out is the fact that the cost of the Democrat program over 10 years of actual in place coverage is $2 trillion and the Republican is 61 billion. If you look at the CBO estimates of the Democrat plan you have to understand it starts in 2014 so it is only 5 years worth at $1 trillion.

Guess how they make up that difference in the deficit numbers under the Democrat plan???? HUGE TAXES!!!!
Guess what happens to the cost of health care under the Democrat plan???? GOES SKY HIGH WITH TAXES AND MICROMANAGEMENT PAPERWORK!!!!!!
How can the Republicans do this??? MEDICAL TORT REFORM FOR STARTERS!!!!!!
Democrat plan
Higher cost of health care
Lower payments to providers causing them to go bankrupt
Fewer doctors
More claims being denied under the government option Same as Medicare or Medicaid)
Less money for Medicare
Huge tax increase
104 czars, top administrators, and bureaucracies
Many building to be built to house the new federal bureaucracies
$2 trillion over 10 years
Republican plan
Change and create laws that facilitate lowered costs of health care
Allow buying insurance across state lines
Tort reform
Total cost over 10 years $61 billion instead of the Democrat $2 trillion-

What you leave out is that there are offsets built into the bills, and that the CBO understands better how to analyze costs than you do.

The Democratic plan decreases the deficit more as time goes on, which means the further out from 2010 you go, the more we save.
Your list of claims about both plans is entirely incorrect. Did you copy and paste it from some right-wing blog? And you've never answered the question I've posed to you several times, though you continue to make the argument that the Democrats' proposals would decrease payments to providers:
Did you support the Democratic plan to increase Medicare payments to providers that was voted down by Republicans two weeks ago? -

Well Endo, again you seem to only listen to or acknowledge part of what's going on here. The plan given forth by the Dems actually will save the gov money due to funding by participants and cost savings in Medicare. The GOP plan will not cover millions of Americans and will end up costing the gov more than the plan proposed by the GOP. As usual you are wrong, don't you get tired of people proving you wrong?

I can't believe how utterly STUPID the rabid right wing Republicans (all there is left) in congress are! They would have been better off just continuing to say NO than to introduce their idiotic proposal.

They cry 'bipartisanship' but are not willing to work with the dems or support anything the dems have to say. Obama tried and tried but all they do is spit in his face. So if the dems 'ram' it through, good for them...finally doing something FOR the people rather than TO the people.
2010! Bring it on! The Dem machine will PULVERIZE the Repubs with all of their scandals and absolute obstructionism regarding anything the american people want. All they support is big money interests and the people be damned!
VOTE OUT ALL REPUBLICANS IN 2010! -
