  Now that would be a find, don't understand why they didn't swap tags before doing restoration. Sounds like somebody just found it and decided to fix it up rather than any real intent.

    VIN, not the license plates.

      Tag means the VIN # looking through wind screen, see it done here all the time. We are one of the few provinces where you can rebuild right offs so many are brought across the US border because they go at auctions dirt cheap. Recently a 02 GM van went for 100.00$ USD, all that was needed was to replace sliding door. I've unloaded as many as three truckloads in one day while working at a friends scrapyard. Now if they come across with out the tittle but just a bill of sales it cost the company bringing them across the border anywhere between two and four hundred less. The only thing is you then only have a parts vehicle, it can never be registered on Canadian roads. What some people do is find a local title and swap the tags on the fire wall, now if this was a stolen vehicle that would be very risky but if you legally own both there is less chance of this being found out. The real bad thing is when people sell these cars or trucks to unsuspecting people who have no idea what was done. Also anyone who works around cars enough can spot the changed tag right away as they are attached with special rivets, now I have seen them copied with aluminum rivets that had been doctored by grinding the edges but cars have VIN#'s throughout the body for the last 20 years to help catch car thieves so like I say this can be risky. Try explaining to the DMV when the pull your car off the road. lol

  I'm surprised that anyone had any records relating to it after all this time. Even if one wants to keep records that long, it's a difficult thing to do.
